Living can be a risky business; make the wrong choices and the consequences can be severe. Every day we make decisions that can jeopardise our lives; texting while driving, electrical work when not qualified, having just one more drink…. simple choices that can have such a drastic impact. I’m not saying you wrap yourself in cotton wool and hibernate, but please exercise your common sense. I’m not a thrill seeker so I am content to get my enjoyment from simple pleasures like walking the dog, watching tv with my family, meeting friends for dinner or exploring the world on holiday. I understand some people have a need for an “adrenaline hit”, so will skydive or bungee jump, and that is their choice, but I prefer to keep both feet firmly planted on the ground. Everyone falls somewhere on the sensation seeking spectrum, but there are those that will simply ignore risks in order to fuel their excitement. Risks are only worth taking if they are for a good cause and contribute to a good life.
For me, life is too precious to take senseless chances with. We only get one shot at it…
“Take calculated risks. That is quite different from being rash.”
General George S Patton
