It’s ok to hate sport…

Some of us are athletic and some of us prefer to be academic. As a kid I loved both school and sport; I achieved good grades and was competitive in several sports. One of my twin boys is similar, whilst the other hates sport with a passion. He would have preferred extra homework to doing anything athletic. In secondary school, Saturday sport was compulsory and was the bane of his life. I couldn’t bear to watch for whilst on the tennis court he had not a competitive bone in his body and was content to lose, even happily letting the opposition cheat. However put him on the PlayStation or sitting an exam and it was a different matter; those non existent competitive genes suddenly reared their ferocious heads! He does enjoy, and is good at snow skiing so he is not completely averse to athletic activity and his academic achievements are outstanding. Most importantly he is happy with who he is and will never do anything just to fit in. One of the biggest challenges of life is to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else. At the end of the day we are all very different and I think he’s perfect and love him just the way he is…
“Life is the most difficult exam. Many people fail because they try to copy others, not realising that everyone has a different question paper.”
