(Nick Riewoldt of St. Kilda -Australian Rules Footballer – retiring in 2017) Last weekend saw the end of this year’s AFL ( Australian Football League) home and away season, and with it came the end of several exceptional, highly decorated player’s careers. When the grand final motorcade works its way around the hallowed turf of the MCG ( Melbourne Cricket Ground), the applause is likely to be deafening and extra special as the public pays homage to this year’s retirees. Never before have so many remarkable footballers hung up their boots at the same time. Many of these will continue in footy afterlife, taking on roles in the media or coaching and thankfully still remaining in the public eye. These players have been adored heroes of many and their stellar achievements will be talked about for many years to come. Their dedication to the game, appetite for hard work and desire to be the best they could be gave their clubs and adoring supporters, years of highlights and memorable moments and they will be sadly missed.
Farewell, goodbye and thank you….
