For years my literary talents lay dormant, my only writing being birthday cards and shopping lists. When my boys reached toddlerhood, I enrolled in the Australian College of Journalism to complete a diploma of Professional Children’s Writing online, and this rekindled my love of writing. This led to publication in an educational magazine and I was thrilled. To see your words in print and know that people are reading your work gives an incredible sense of pride. Writing fiction presents such a wonderful world of freedom, where when it comes to your imagination, the sky’s the limit. If you want someone to fly, you make them fly. I then wrote and sold some mystery stories to an online business which sold kids mystery games akin to the murder mystery games we played as adults in the early 90’s. This was the stepping stone to our own online KidsMysteryGames on Etsy,
the first of my business ventures with Tracey, and which we still run. Then came our craft creations, Little Owls and Pals
knitting and sewing and eventually, over coffee and lunch one day, the seed of an idea for our book was planted. Now, here we are, our book Mum’s the Word,
a published reality, and the reason for this blog. I love the daily post and have made it my mission to complete every prompt. ( A successful endeavour thus far.) It is incredible how one simple word leads to so many different stories, and I love the challenge of determining what I will write about.
“I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.”
