Our Book Group…

Lis and I have been members of a Book Group for 8 years now. I started the group after meeting a lady in a local book shop. We were discussing our interest in books & mentioned how we would both love to join a book group. I suggested we should swap phone numbers & I said I would post a message on the ABC’s First Tuesday  Bookclub page. (Now known as simply The Book Club). We had a lot of enquiries & our group was formed in December 2009.

There are 8 ladies in the group, ranging in ages from 30 – 55. We meet monthly at each other’s home and choose the books we read ourselves. Our books are mainly choices of fiction, but some of our favorites have been Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey, 11.22.63 by Stephen King, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins,  The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, Mudbound by Hillary Jordan  & Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It’s a lovely bunch of ladies and over the years we have learnt a lot about each other. We all have different views and we don’t always like the same books, but our discussions are always interesting. If you love reading, consider joining a book group, or even starting up your own. If you don’t know where to start, you could try putting up a notice at your local library with your email address as a contact.

Are you in a book group already? We would love to hear about it, where are you located? What have been some great books you’ve read?

Tracey & Lis

  1. I belong to a book group, but it’s not a small and personal one like yours. It’s an online group through Goodreads. I think there are over 1700 people in it. Still, even though it isn’t personal, people talk about what they are reading. I learn about books I’ve never read before and gets lots of great ideas.
