I have always tried to instil in my boys to not put off until tomorrow what you can do today. That being said, I must confess I always have a “too hard basket” of things I plan on getting around to later! I’m sure we all would love to possess a round tuit ( a circular object giving its owner the ability to get done everything that would have otherwise been put off to a later date; “when they get round to it!”) If only these things actually worked!
Sometimes deferring something has been a pointless ( and painful) exercise. I remember years ago having the worst toothache and due to a dentist phobia, I lived on painkillers for two weeks, thinking it would somehow magically go away. Guess what – it didn’t, and by the time my friend dragged me to see her dentist husband, I was in mortal agony! I remember thinking how stupid I was putting it off, but I confess I probably would do the same again now.
Likewise I procrastinated about having an MRI on my knee, which has troubled me ( and kept me off the tennis court) for months. I thought it would cure itself, but again I was wrong. So here I sit after knee surgery, (a meniscus tear and a displaced kneecap) thinking I should have done this months ago, and now I would be fully recovered.
Ah, hindsight … it’s a wonderful thing…
