Amazing how a word can have such different meanings! So here I am pondering (ruminating) about how the sound of chewing ( ruminating) can drive some people crazy!
This is actually classified as misophonia ; a neurologic disorder leading to extremely negative reactions and feelings related to certain sounds. Who else grimaces in pain at the sound of nails scraping down a blackboard? Or recoils in horror when sitting with someone who chews their food excruciatingly loudly? I’d love to hear other people’s dreaded sounds. One of my kids hates the squeaky noise that sand on a beach can sometimes make when underfoot.
