One of the hardest things of being a parent can be our ability to resist…
Resist the urge to yell at our treasures; resist giving in to their demands; resist smacking them; resist locking ourselves in the bathroom to gain some much needed peace; resist locking the children in their bedrooms until they are adults; resist sticking our tongues out at the reproving looks from other parents judging our parenting skills; the list is endless…..
Sometimes you just have to give in to your urges and provided there is no physical or emotional damage to the kids, it’s great for the soul! One such occasion I found myself getting very frustrated whilst trying to help the kids with their homework, ( they were around 7 or 8). They were being deliberately annoying, not concentrating and I, being extremely tired, was in no mood for their shenanigans!! After some time of trying to get them to understand, I finally lost the plot and threw the homework book across the room in disgust!
This actually worked in my favour when we all started laughing at my childish tantrum.
The moral of my story; if you can’t beat them, join them! And it’s damn satisfying to act like a kid sometimes and let your emotions out!
Would love to hear others stories about losing it as a parent!
