MUM’S the word for these lifelong best friends, who are now also authors.

Lysterfield’s Tracey Samios and Lis Norman, from Wheelers Hill, have released their first book, Mum’s The Word, which shares moments of wisdom, joy and heartache from their child-raising years.

Mrs Norman, said the idea of the book — which includes stories, quotes, and memories — came while they were reminiscing about when their children were younger.

Mrs Samios has three girls aged 21, 19 and 17 and Mrs Norman has twin boys, aged 18.

“Realising that the older you get the more you forget led to the brainwave of writing all these memories down and putting them in a book for the kids to have and look back on in their older years,” Mrs Norman said.

She said the book showed “there’s no such thing as a perfect mum, and at the end of the day, maybe that’s not such a bad thing”.

“It will show you how parenting can be very different from family to family,” she said.

“It may make you cry, we hope it makes you laugh, but most of all we hope it shows you there is no such thing as the perfect parent.

“As long as you and your kids are happy, you’re doing okay.”

The pair have known each other for almost 50 years and have had other business ventures including two Etsy online shops selling knitted and fabric animals, and children’s party kits.

The book is $19.99 paperback and $3.99 as an ebook.
